'Little' Lillian Delivers Big
For over two weeks the Lillian Post Office and its employees brought a lot of attention to the Baldwin County Humane Society and to our food pantry project. Their event was kicked off by a day of fun and festivities with homemade goodies and refreshments donated by local businesses. It also marked the start of a pet photo contest. People were eager to share their beloved pet and the walls were soon covered with photos. Prizes were donated by local businesses.
This was all done in conjunction with the release of the shelter pet stamps by the US Postal Service to raise awareness and increase adoption of pets from shelters. Little Lillian sold 11,000 of the stamps and collected 700 pounds of pet food!
Thanks so much to Acting Postmaster, Dixie Nolte, the post office staff and all in the community of Lillian who supported this event! We appreciate all the hard work. Special thanks go to Lillian Veterinary Hospital, Lillian Pharmacy, Lillian Pet Grooming, Dollar General of Lillian, Florabama Title, Lillian Chevron, Dominoes of Perdido, Palmetto Creek Dental, Ms. Sauvez, and employees of Build a Bear at the Wharf for all their contributions.

Lawrence and Jodi Frederick and their World Famous Frisbee Dogs, the Disc-Connected K-9s, are collecting for the BARC! Pet Food Pantry at the 6th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival.
The dogs have provided Frisbee Dog entertainment around the world and have performed for some of the most amazing audiences. In addition, 7 of their dogs are World Frisbee Dog Championships Finalists; more than any other team in the history of the sport!
As amazing ... every one of the dogs is rescued from either a shelter or a puppy mill. Before each dog's performance, Lawrence tells the audience about the dog's beginnings. He reminds the people how important it is to support the local animal welfare agencies.
The Fredericks were in awe when they learned that the BARC! Pet Food Pantry has given away 6,805 pounds of food to 1,710 dog and cats since it launched in May 2010. Naturally, while they are in Baldwin County, they wanted to contribute.
The community is asked to bring dog food, cat food and cat litter and put in the official blue BARC! Pet Food Pantry collection box at the Disc-Connected K-9s tent at anytime during the weekend of the Hot Air Balloon Fesitval.
The choreographed shows of these rescued dogs making flying leaps and Frisbee catches will entertain the entire family. The Disc-Connected K-9s shows are free to the public. Their 2010 schedule is: Friday, June 18th at 10am, 2pm and 6pm. Saturday, June 19th at 7:30am, 3pm and 6pm. Sunday, June 20th at 7:30am.
The festival is held at the Foley Sportspark, 18507 Hwy. 98 W. Click here for directions to the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival

4-H JUBILEE
Henry Lewis McDuffy III wrote a letter to his Spanish Fort neighbors explaining his
4-H service project was to collect supplies for the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) Pet Food Pantry. He attached the letter to a bag, went door-to-door and returned in a couple of days to pick them up.
At the recent 4-H Jubilee held at Farmers Federation Building in Robertsdale, McDuffy presented Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director, with 40 bags filled with dog and cat food, toys, litter and $50 cash donation to the BARC! Pet Food Pantry.
MfDuffy's dad remarked “We don't even own a dog or a cat; even so, Henry Lewis wanted to help the animals.”
Everyone was in awe of the initiative the 4-H Spanish Fort Middle School Charter student showed with his service project.
