The Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) celebrated providing 3,089 families with pet food in 2010. Last year, BARC! partnered with community food banks to assist income-eligible families with food for their dogs and cats to make sure families can keep them.
The BARC! Pet Food Pantry was on-site at Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort 29 times in 2010. BARC! gave away 32,695 pounds –- more than 16 tons! -- of pet food that fed an average of 325 dogs and cats each week.
“We have the most amazing volunteers” stated Maddie Temonia, BARC! Pet Food Pantry Coordinator. “On December 21 we gave out more than a ton of pet food. We had 10 devoted people who volunteered 47 hours to make that happen.”
“Animal shelters are full, foreclosures are still prevalent and pet parents are having to make tough, heart-breaking decisions they never thought they would have to make” remarked Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director. “To counter that, we established the first-ever pet food pantry in this region; 58% of the families at Prodisee Pantry need pet food.”
The BARC! Pet Food Pantry is funded soley by donations. We accept any brand of dog or cat food and treats. To make an online donation, click here.
