MAY I PLEASE PET YOUR DOG?

The Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) brought some of their adoptable dogs and Pawsitive Therapy team to Swift Church Preschool in Foley on June 24,2011, for a service learning segment. The students were taught pet etiquette before the dogs were introduced. Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director, showed the most important rule using Pawsitive Therapy dog Knala – the kids are to ask "May I Please Pet Your Dog?" before approaching. Nancy McBroom and her Yorkshire Terrier Emma, a service dog who flies on airplanes, demonstrated that sometimes the answer is no -- an equally important lesson. Barbara Scott and BARC! adoptable Dachshund Monty taught the preschoolers how to close their thumb inside their fist and present it to the dog to sniff or lick.Connie Brown and Pawsitive Therapy dog Dolce showed how it’s possible to relax and enjoy being petted by groups of children.The students also donated hundreds of pounds of canned/dry food to the BARC! Pet Food Pantry.

"GUPPIES TO PUPPIES"

The Little Gym of the Eastern Shore's “Guppies to Puppies” kids camp lesson on July 11, 2010, featured adoptable dogs of the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!), Pawsitive Therapy dogs and BARC! for Books dogs.

The campers were taught pet etiquette before the dogs entered the room. They had to ask “May I pet your dog?” before approaching.
