Jake has been doing well. He spends his days sleeping at my feet or begging me to play ball. He is my constant companion and brings joy to my life.

When Frosty (AKA, Towser) came into my home, I had no idea how he would fit in. At first he was somewhat shy around men. Although still apprehensive if a male approaches, he does not hesitate to go to them if they are sitting. This is the most wonderful dog. He listens well and obeys commands. When he sees me, he stands on his two hind legs to greet. If I am sitting down, he will jump into the chair beside me, put his head in my lap, and look up at me. He is a great playmate for his brother Garland, a Bichon about the same age. Thank you BARC for Frosty; he is beautiful.

Annie, our red & white beagle, came from a beagle rescue in Prairieville, LA. We adopted her before we moved to Daphne in 2007. After moving, we decided she needed a friend. In the Sunday paper there was a picture of Stevie - black & white beagle mix who had already lost one eye to glaucoma. We fell in love with the picture and contacted BARC. He arrived last May and has been a joy! Annie has always been calm, quiet, and seldom gets into anything she's not supposed to. Stevie on the other hand is fearless; he has not let being blind slow him down at all. He's bouncy, playful, loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. We are so happy he came into our lives!

When we adopted Jackie in 2008 we were delighted with her. As a puppy mill dog she has been hard to train, But she loves our other Bision and they are constant companions. Now I understand why we were selected as parents for her. She would have been lost without Maggie to guide her. She has come so far... she eats out of my hand now... where in 2008 she hid from me. She is still somewhat shy... but so much better than she was. She loves my husband and sits in his lap. When she wants to go out in the morning... she licks my toes. She has certainly adopted to our family. We love her.

We adopted Lil Bit, now known as Lily, last fall from BARC! at an adoption fair at the Wharf. As you can see, she has adjusted quite well and really enjoys napping with her Daddy. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle. She's still shy around new people, but has gotten much better and we hope to see further improvement in the future.

Last year I wrote a note of condolence to the family of one of our wonderful supporters who had recently passed away. I also expressed our willingness to help, if necessary, with a dog, Murphy, that she had recently adopted from us. It was so nice to hear from them and to receive good news about Murphy. I would like to share the following note from them: "We wanted to write and thank you for the kind note we received from the humane society after Mommy's death. It was so thoughtful and much appreciated. We also wanted you to know that Murphy is doing well here in New York City. He charms everyone (two and four legged) he meets on his walks in the park, and the doctors at Animal Medical Center, where he goes for checkups, adore him! Submitted by Nevin Yankie.

My wife already had a Chesapeake when we met. I was driving along hwy 98 in Daphne when I saw an event in a field with lots of animals and people. I was instantly drawn to a stark white fluffy puppy. He was as white as a t-shirt. I named him Grady. Turns out he was a lab after all. We went everywhere together. He really was is best friend. In an accident, both of his hind legs suffered torn ligaments, but Dr. Moore performed an amazing surgery that fixed the problem: he cut and rotated the bones, then plated them back together. At his vet visit yesterday he weighed in at 89 pounds and healthy. I am now a big-time dog lover. At first I thought I was rescuing him, but it turned out that he was really adopting me. Thanks for many great years with a great friend.

My name is Heather Upchurch. My husband and I adopted a long legged rat terrier named Sally from an adoption at PetSmart back in March. We had not planned to fall in love right off hand but as soon as we saw her there was no second thought. We wanted to take her home right then. I just wanted to give y'all an update and let you know that she has been so wonderful for me and my husband. We love her so much. She is full of energy and love to give us plenty of kisses. Thank you for all that y'all did to help us bring her home.

I have attached a picture of Lizzie on her new bed she got for Christmas!
Yesterday we all went to the vet's for our annual physical - Lizzie, Casie, Kevin and I! Lizzie has filled out and weighs in at 84 lbs! Now that she is happy and hopefully knows she will always have food - we can get her to a slimmer 75-80 over the next year!
As we left he office I was walking to the desk to pay the bill a large male dog tried to get close to Casie and me and Kevin who was holding Lizzie - really had to restrain her! She did not like this dog getting so close. It has been a wonderful year watching her learn that this is her forever home and we her forever family. Seeing her potentially put herself in arms way to protect us showed us - she is finally home.
In addition please tell Randy - she knows play as well! But even more important she has peace and knows love!
This has been the most wonderful experience and we will do it again when the time comes! Thanks to everyone who takes the time to rescue a Dog!

We lost our 10 year old cocker, Cricket, to lymphoma in January 2008. We adopted "Happy" July 2nd, 2010. We knew we were finally ready to bring another bundle of joy into our home and was so excited to meet him. One visit was all it took, it was love at first sight.
He is so well mannered, sweet, playful, funny and so happy to be home. He plays until he drops and loves to be hugged, and have his belly rubbed often. He loves to cuddle and is great with the grandchildren. I cannot tell you how lucky we feel to have found him.
Thank you for the wonderful work that you all do for God's misplaced creatures.
p.s. Happy is still very happy, but we call him Beau Diddley. Photo caption: My pig, my bone, my couch - life is good

We adopted Jazz from BARC! in April of this year after seeing her at a PetSmart adoption where we fell in love with her. She looked so much like our other dogs Pearl and Sophie, that we had to make her a part of the family. Jazz was so shy when we went to pick her up to bring her home but having her new sisters along really helped. She is still a bit shy, but is coming out of her shell more every day. Her favorite things are playing tag in the back yard with her sisters, and cuddling up on the couch to take a nap. Jazz is the perfect addition to our family, and couldn't be a happier puppy! In the picture from the left is Jazz, Sophie, and Pearl.

I just wanted everyone to know that Copper has survived his first weekend in his new home with me. It didn’t take very long for Copper to bond with me (by Saturday morning)! We left Copper at home alone for about an hour yesterday and he did just fine. He is the sweetest thing and it breaks my heart to think that it was a person that made him so afraid of everyone & everything. So far, Copper hasn’t played with any of the toys, but loves his bones and especially loves for me to pretend to chase him. I wanted to pet him before I left for work this morning, but he just wanted to play, so I “chased” him around the couch a few times and he loved it. He has done great on a leash also, so we have gone for a couple of walks around the block. We’ll aim to go for a longer walk tomorrow. We even walked past a group of kids being loud, and Copper did not even react to them, just kept on walking. My husband is home with Copper today and said that Copper was about to fall asleep in the chair in the living room (but was trying hard to stay awake). Copper especially loves the backyard and has taken to drinking water from the swimming pool and helping me tend to the plants. The first night I could not get Copper to come in the house with me, now I can’t get Copper to go outside without me! Thank you to all of you at BARC! who have taken such good care of Copper and lavished all that love on him! He is a sweet boy and is fitting in very well in his new home. It was easy to open my heart to him! I’m just glad I was able to get him to open his heart to me. If you’re ever in Pensacola, feel free to stop by to visit Copper. I know he will miss all of you (and Potsie!). I think all of you would be amazed at how well he has done and how happy he seems – he definitely has not had any trouble making himself at home. He has found his favorite chair in the family room and seems to like sleeping on the bed in the front guest room (my previous dog, Oscar, like to sleep under that same bed).

Annabelle came into our lives at the perfect time. After mourning the loss of a parent to heart disease and two four-legged family members to cancer within a year, our home was a depressing place to be. Our yellow lab, Woody, never being an only dog, moped around the house, refused to venture outside on his own, or eat without companionship. Melancholy was his middle name. Realizing we all needed some light in our lives, we headed over to BARC. Thumbing through the album of adoptees, a shaggy blonde dog stared back at us with bright eyes and a loving face. We kept returning to her picture and decided she was the one. Recovering from a severe case of heartworm and an incredibly sensitive stomach, we picked Annabelle up from the vet as soon as she was well enough to enjoy the comforts of a new home. Two and a half years later, she continues to make us laugh, share her love when we cuddle, and snuggle up to us when she sleeps.

The elderly white lab/retreiver found in the Point Clear Tennis Club area has an owner. A week ago, I took him to Dr. Schindler's office for treatment. His owner started calling vet's offices looking for him. She works in Mobile and is taking the afternoon off to pick him up and pay for his treatment. His name is Winston. He's fourteen years old, deaf and mostly blind. They recently moved to a subdivision on Hwy 3/Section street from which he wandered. I had made a poster to put out today. And, I was in the process of entering him on the many web sites for registering lost/found dogs when Judy called to say his owner had called the office. Many, many thanks to Judy Sharp and Dr. Schindler for taking him in and starting treatment on his neck wound.
