1st Annual Mardi Gras Pet Parade, Adoption & BARC! Pet Food Collection at Bass Pro Shop in Spanish Fort!
FREE to Participate & Watch! When: Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011 Parade Time: 11am

Parade Route: Our Parade Route will start in the boat department at the back of the store, coming up the main isle between Fishing & Men’s Clothing. It will flow to the left when reaching the Main Isle at the front of the store, follow the Main Isle for a short distance and make another left heading to the back of the store along the Isle that ends at the Fish Tank.

Award Ceremony: The Award Ceremony will take place around the Fish Tank area. Spectators, please allow room in the center of the floor at the Fish Tank area for us to circle the Pets for judging.

Judging Process: There will be 4 judges and the audience will help judge also. Have fun watching the parade and let Your Vote help determine the 2011 King, Queen and Court. Once the parade is over the 4 judges will pick their 2 favorite pets. Of the 8 chosen the Audience will Vote and decide the final outcome of the Court.

Bass Pro Shoppers: You can enjoy the parade from the end of the isles adjacent to the parade route. No crowd gates or police blowing horns will be around, so please leave room for the parade to flow down the main route without interruptions. You will also be able to view the parade from the balcony upstairs in the hunting area.

Participating PETS & OWNERS: The Parade starts at 11 am, so we need you at the back of the store by 10:45 am, so we can get everyone lined up and ready to come inside the store on time. You can come through the store or follow the sidewalk around the Interstate side of the store until you reach the back boat area. The parade is to show off the ones you LOVE. You can dress them up as much or as little as you want. NO throws or giveaways, this is just a way to show off your babies in the spirits of the season. Since we don’t have street cleaning machines like they do in the big cities, please take care of any accidents your pet may have.

BARC! Pet Adoption & Pet Food Pantry Collection: Bass Pro Guests & Parade Participants, if you would like to add a new member to the family, then Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) will be onsite from Noon-4pm the day of the Parade. They will have animals that need homes and providing information on how to adopt a new family member. We will also be a collection site for the BARC! Pet Food Pantry during that same time frame, so if you would like to bring pet food in or learn more about this program then come by and visit with them. The pet adoption and pet food donation will be on the right side of the front door just before entering the store.

Each participant gets a treat! See everyone on Saturday 12th at 11am!

With the goal of saving the lives of homeless pets through adoption, the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) is taking part the PetSmart Charities Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend, which runs Friday, September 10 to Sunday, September 12, 2010. Hill’s® Science Diet® and PetSmart® are the proud sponsors of this event, which will take place in all 1,160 PetSmart® stores in the United States and Canada.

BARC! is one of more than 2,000 animal-welfare agencies in North America that is participating.

“Various breeds of kittens and adult cats are showcased year-round at PetSmart Charities Adoption Center at the Eastern Shore Center” remarked Sonja Presley, BARC! Executive Director. “Benny, a domestic short hair cat, is one of our rescues looking for his forever home. Last year, someone put a litter of three tiny kittens in a cardboard box, taped it shut and left it at the Loxley ball park. Our Kitten Kaboodles volunteers rescued them and have adopted two of the kittens. Benny, the remaining one, has the most interesting face -- he looks like an Egyptian cat. His adoption fee is $55.”

Cat lovers who are ready to make a lifetime commitment to a homeless pet are encouraged to visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Both the adopter and the organizations get extra incentives during Second Chance for Love National Adoption weekend.

Event sponsors Hill’s Science Diet Brand and PetSmart® are providing free samples to everyone who adopts.

PetSmart Charities® and BARC! believe that pet adoption is critical to ending the tragedy of euthanasia – a tragedy that claims the lives of millions of homeless pets throughout North America every year.

BARC! routinely hosts pet adoptions the third weekend of each month at PetSmart in Spanish Fort. Additional Kitten Kaboodles adoption partners are Olde Tyme Feed and Eastern Shore Pet Hospital in Fairhope; Bay Animal Clinic North in Spanish Fort and a by-appointment only location in Foley.
